Mass resignation: Soldiers free to quit service, says Nigerian Army
The Nigerian Army has addressed recent reports suggesting widespread resignations among its ranks due to systemic corruption, inadequate welfare, and low morale, saying that such claims are incorrect and misleading.
On Sunday, Director of Army Public Relations, Onyema Nwachukwu, dismissed these allegations as attempts to incite discontent and undermine the reputation of the Nigerian Army.
He emphasized that the Army operates under voluntary service terms, allowing personnel to resign in accordance with established procedures outlined in the Harmonized Terms and Conditions of Service.
Nwachukwu explained that the process of discharge from the Army is well-organized and routine.
He emphasized that personnel can resign for various reasons, including medical conditions, community service, or pursuing other careers.

He dismissed claims that resignations are driven by dissatisfaction with welfare or corruption, pointing out that such reports fail to consider the actual reasons for personnel leaving the service.
He highlighted the Army’s commitment to improving the welfare of its members, citing initiatives like the Affordable Housing Option for All Soldiers Scheme (AHOOAS), which provides soldiers with options for decent housing.
Additionally, he said the Army is investing in infrastructure upgrades and maintaining regular allowances and medical support for deployed troops.
Nwachukwu underscored the Army’s dedication to enhancing personnel well-being and operational effectiveness, noting that recent leadership efforts have focused on both improving living standards and maintaining a highly motivated force.
