Mining site collapses in Zamfara, kills 8, injures many
At least eight people lost their lives after an illegal mining site caved in at Jabaka, Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The incident, which took place around 8:00 a.m. on September 25, was reported by security analyst Zagozola Makama.
According to sources, the alert came from the Commander of the Anti-Illegal Mining Unit, who disclosed that a number of miners were buried when the pit collapsed.

“Teams of the Anti-Illegal Mining Unit, led by the Commander, visited the scene and recovered eight corpses as well as many injured victims.
“Rescue operations are still ongoing to recover the remaining victims, dead or alive,” the sources said.
The victims, both the deceased and the injured, were moved to the General Hospital in Maru for autopsy and treatment, the sources added.
