Mother Seeks Help to Raise N14.5m for Son’s Kidney, Arm Surgery
Several months after sustaining life-threatening injuries in a workplace accident, 31-year-old John Harrison Bodzah is battling worsening health complications as his family appeals to Nigerians for financial assistance to fund urgent medical treatment estimated at N14.5 million.
John’s mother, Mabel Bodzah, disclosed in an emotional interview that the accident left her son with a severely damaged left arm, bladder complications, and kidney-related issues that have continued to deteriorate despite months of treatment.
According to her, John, who worked for a Port Harcourt-based company before the incident, was moved between several hospitals before eventually being admitted to a General Hospital where doctors began emergency treatment.
“He badly injured his left arm and was moved from one hospital to another before he was finally admitted to a General Hospital. Since then, he has been in severe pain, unable to eat properly and struggling to pass urine,” she said.

Mabel explained that the family has exhausted its savings while trying to keep him alive, adding that the once energetic and hardworking young man has now lost his job and depends entirely on relatives for survival.
“Before the accident, John was a strong, hardworking and hopeful young man. Today, he is fighting for his life. He has been in and out of hospitals for months, and we have spent everything we had on treatment,” she lamented.
A medical report issued by Dr. Grace Gabriel, Chief Executive Officer of Full Grace Healthcare Services, Port Harcourt, confirmed that John suffered a complicated left arm injury following the accident, alongside chronic kidney disease and severe urinary retention complications.
The report revealed that a Computerised Tomography (CT) scan showed obstructive uropathy caused by bladder outlet obstruction, leading to serious dilation and damage to both kidneys.
Doctors, according to the report, have recommended urgent cystectomy surgery, multiple dialysis sessions, and skin grafting procedures for the injured arm.
The estimated cost of the complete treatment package was put at N14.5 million.
Although the first bladder surgery has already been carried out, his mother disclosed that John still depends on a catheter and urgently requires further treatment to prevent permanent kidney failure and additional complications.
“I am pleading with Nigerians and kindhearted individuals to please help save my son,” she appealed.
The case, which was earlier highlighted by several Nigerian media platforms including Vanguard News and Independent Newspaper Nigeria, has continued to attract sympathy as the family struggles to raise funds for the life-saving procedures. (Independent Newspaper Nigeria)
