Mystery Deaths in Ajah: Police Detain Suspect Over Gospel Singer, Three Others

LAGOS — The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a suspect in connection with the mysterious deaths of a gospel singer and three other persons who were found lifeless inside a music studio in Ajah, Lagos State.

The victims were identified as gospel artiste Matthew Ogundele, Itunu Ogundele, Joseph Sanya, and popular blogger Matthew Awosanya, widely known as JoesTv. They were discovered dead on Wednesday inside a music studio located within the HFP Shopping Complex, Abraham Adesanya axis of Ajah.

Confirming the development on Sunday, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, said the case was initially reported at the Ajah Police Division before being transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, Yaba, for a more detailed probe.

According to Adebisi, one suspect, identified as the organiser of the event held at the studio, has been arrested and is currently in police custody.

“The incident was first reported at the Ajah Division but later transferred to SCID, Panti. One suspect, identified as the organiser of the event, is currently in custody. Investigation is ongoing, and we are awaiting the autopsy report,” the police spokesperson said.

Police sources disclosed that the studio owner, Akintayo Akinbola, reported the incident. He told investigators that the deceased were members of a gospel music crew invited to perform at a birthday praise programme organised by his wife.

According to the police, the gospel artistes reportedly completed their recording session late on Tuesday and decided to stay overnight in the studio. Trouble, however, arose the following morning when the studio owner returned and found the door locked from the inside.

Upon forcing the door open, he reportedly discovered the four individuals lying lifeless inside the studio.

Investigators said no visible signs of violence were found on the bodies at the scene. The victims were later confirmed dead at the Mainland Hospital, Yaba, while their remains were deposited at the Mainland General Hospital mortuary pending the outcome of an autopsy.

The incident has since generated widespread reactions on social media, with friends, colleagues, and members of the gospel music community demanding a thorough investigation and justice for the deceased.

Police authorities have assured the public that investigations are ongoing and that further updates will be provided as findings emerge.
