BREAKING: National grid records first collapse in 2025
Nigerians have been thrown into darkness as the national grid experienced a collapse on Saturday, January 11, 2024.
It was the first grid collapse in the year, after recording total system failure 12 times last year.
According to data obtained from the Nigerian System Operator’s portal (niggrid.org), the collapse occurred at 1:56pm.
This incident follows a pattern of instability, with the grid suffering about 12 consecutive collapses in 2024.

The cause of the latest failure could not be immediately established.
It was learnt that the power generation dropped at 2pm from 2111.01 megawatts to 390.20MW by 3pm.
Restoration efforts were said to have started.
