NDLEA raids Lagos club, arrests Pretty Mike, over 100 others in drug bust

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested over 100 suspects, including popular Lagos socialite and club owner, Mike Eze Nwalie Nwogu, popularly known as Pretty Mike, during a midnight raid on Proxy Night Club in Victoria Island, Lagos.

The operation, which took place in the early hours of Sunday, October 26, targeted the club located at 7 Akin Adesola Street, where a suspected drug-fueled party was reportedly underway.

NDLEA spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, said the raid followed credible intelligence and was executed by operatives embedded at the party from 11pm on Saturday. The gathering was disrupted at about 3am on Sunday in line with the agency’s Standard Operating Procedures.

“Cartons of illicit substances including Loud (a potent strain of cannabis), laughing gas, and other narcotics were recovered from the venue and the club’s storage area,” Babafemi revealed.

In a separate operation, NDLEA agents intercepted a UK-bound consignment of cocaine concealed in cocoa butter cream containers at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Ikeja. The 70 parcels of cocaine, weighing 3.60 kilograms, were discovered on October 14 during cargo examination for an Air Peace flight to London.

A cargo agent, Lawal Mustapha Olakunle, who presented the shipment, was arrested. Follow-up investigations led to the arrest of two other suspects: Ogunmuyide Taiwo Deborah, a healthcare worker, and Mutiu Adebayo Adebiyi, CEO of Mutiu Adebiyi & Co travel agency.

Meanwhile, NDLEA officers at Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, foiled an attempt by a 35-year-old Lesotho national, Lemena Mark, to export 103.59 grams of methamphetamine concealed in a diabeta herbs coffee tea pack to the Philippines via Ethiopian Airlines.

Also, in Kwara State, operatives recovered 21,950 capsules of tramadol 250mg hidden inside a 100-litre water heater. The suspect, Umar Abubakar, 40, was arrested in Bode Saadu, Moro LGA, following actionable intelligence on October 21.

The NDLEA has reiterated its commitment to dismantling drug trafficking networks across the country and warned that no individual, regardless of status, would be spared in its ongoing crackdown.
