Ned Nwoko vows legal action against rising online harassment, criminal defamation

Senator Ned Nwoko (APC – Delta North) has threatened firm legal action against the growing wave of online harassment, cyberstalking, and criminal defamation allegedly targeted at him across social media platforms.

In a statement released on Thursday by his Communication Team in Abuja, the senator condemned what he described as a coordinated campaign of falsehood aimed at tarnishing his reputation.

“Our attention has been drawn to a renewed pattern of online harassment, defamatory videos, and publications targeted at Sen. Ned Nwoko. These actions appear calculated to create a false narrative for ulterior motives,” the statement said.

The team noted that Nwoko remains fully focused on his legislative, developmental, and business engagements, stressing that he has no interest in “online distractions or fabricated drama.” It added that grave allegations must be handled strictly through due process and not through “misinformation or emotional manipulation.”

Warning against the increasing culture of defending wrongdoing, the statement noted: “Today, falsehood may be deployed against one individual; tomorrow, it may be directed at anyone.”

To this end, Senator Nwoko has directed his legal team to file petitions with the Inspector General of Police, Director General of the DSS, and the Cybercrime Unit of the Nigeria Police for a full investigation and prosecution of those responsible for the alleged cyber harassment and criminal defamation. The team confirmed that all relevant digital footprints will be traced.

The statement also urged the United States and United Kingdom authorities to be cautious of attempts to create “artificial drama” around his family for the sake of gaining asylum, stressing that such manoeuvres should be rejected.

It called on Nigerians to disregard circulating false narratives, assuring that proper legal processes are underway.

“The senator remains focused on his duties and continues to uphold dignity, responsibility and due process,” the statement concluded.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned Sarumi Samusudeen Babafemi, an associate of social media personality Ismaila Mustapha (Mompha), alongside three corporate entities, over an alleged ₦206 million fraud before the Lagos State Special Offences Court, Ikeja.

Babafemi — Managing Director and CEO of 606 Autos Limited, 606 Music Limited, and Splash Off Entertainment Limited — faces five counts of conspiracy, concealment, and transfer of proceeds of crime, allegedly committed between 2013 and 2018. The EFCC claims the offences involved large sums, including ₦37.6 million and ₦93 million transferred to third parties, with knowledge that the funds were proceeds of unlawful acts.

When the charges were read, Babafemi pleaded not guilty. His defence lawyer, SAN Kunle Adegoke, filed a bail application, which the court granted, ordering that Babafemi be released to his counsel upon signing an affidavit of undertaking to appear in court. The trial is now scheduled to commence on March 24, 2026.

The EFCC said Babafemi acted in concert with Mompha and other co-accused — Ridwan Momodu Allison (Osama) and Richard Ugbah, who are currently at large — to facilitate the alleged money laundering scheme. This latest prosecution comes as part of broader EFCC efforts to tackle financial crimes and fraud networks linked to high-profile figures in Nigeria.
