Nigerian army destroys bandits’ camps in Taraba during operation Lafiya Nakowa

Troops of the 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army/Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have successfully raided and dismantled several bandits’ camps in Taraba State as part of an ongoing clearance offensive code-named Operation Lafiya Nakowa.

The operation, aimed at flushing out criminal elements and restoring peace in the region, was carried out on Friday, October 31, 2025, following credible intelligence reports on bandit activities in Takum Local Government Area.

According to the Brigade’s spokesperson, Lieutenant Umar Muhammad, troops conducted a comprehensive patrol through Tor-Tser, Kofar Ahmadu, Tornyi, Unom, Mbayongo, and Yongogba villages, clearing the identified areas and surrounding river lines of bandit presence.

“During the advance, fresh intelligence was received at Kofar Ahmadu village indicating the presence of bandits around TY Farm in Tati,” Muhammad said. “Troops immediately projected combat power toward the area through Sabon Gida Tati and made contact with the criminals. Confronted with superior firepower, the bandits fled deep into the forest.”

Subsequent exploitation led to the discovery and destruction of a major bandits’ camp at TY Farm. A Dane gun and other items were recovered from the site, effectively denying the criminals a safe haven.

Commander of the 6 Brigade/Sector 3 OPWS, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, commended the troops for their swift response, gallantry, and professionalism during the operation. He reaffirmed the Brigade’s commitment to maintaining peace and security across Taraba State.

General Uwa also urged residents to continue providing timely and credible information to support ongoing military operations in the region.

The successful clearance marks another milestone in the Nigerian Army’s efforts to combat banditry and terrorism in the North-East and North-Central regions of the country.
