Osimhen Brace Sinks Fenerbahce as Galatasaray Win Istanbul Derby

Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen scored twice in the first half to inspire Galatasaray to a 2-1 victory over arch-rivals Fenerbahce in Monday’s Turkish Super Lig derby at RAMS Park in Istanbul.

The Nigerian forward struck in the 29th and 44th minutes to give the reigning champions a two-goal cushion before Fenerbahce fought back in the second half through Irfan Can Kahveci.

Osimhen opened the scoring in the 29th minute after combining with Baris Alper Yilmaz before driving into the penalty area and firing past goalkeeper Ederson.

The goal gave Galatasaray the breakthrough in a fiercely contested encounter between two of Turkish football’s biggest clubs.

The 27-year-old striker doubled the hosts’ advantage just before half-time, redirecting Davinson Sanchez’s effort into the net with a header in the 44th minute.

Galatasaray went into the break leading 2-0 after dominating much of the first half, while Fenerbahce struggled to create clear scoring opportunities.

The visitors returned with greater urgency after the interval and reduced the deficit in the 62nd minute. Kahveci produced an acrobatic overhead kick after receiving a pass from Oguz Aydin, giving Fenerbahce renewed hope of salvaging a result.

Fenerbahce pushed for an equaliser as the match approached its closing stages, but Galatasaray held firm to secure all three points.

The result strengthened Galatasaray’s position in the Turkish Super Lig title race, taking the club back to the top of the standings with 22 points from nine matches. Fenerbahce remained on 16 points, dropping to fifth place.

Osimhen’s brace further underlined his importance to Galatasaray’s attack as the Nigerian international continued to deliver in high-profile matches.

The victory also extended Galatasaray’s impressive recent record against their Istanbul rivals, giving the home side bragging rights in one of Turkish football’s most closely followed fixtures.

For Osimhen, the performance was another significant contribution to Galatasaray’s campaign, with his two first-half goals ultimately proving decisive despite Fenerbahce’s second-half response.
