Nigerian Army Frees Five Abductees, Finds Bodies in Kogi Forest Operation

Troops of the Nigerian Army conducting ongoing anti-kidnapping operations in Kogi State have rescued five abducted victims and recovered decomposing bodies during a clearance operation in Lokoja Local Government Area.

A credible military source disclosed to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday that the operation was carried out by troops drawn from the Obajana and Kabba patrol bases, following credible intelligence on the presence of kidnappers in the area.

The source said the troops deployed a fighting patrol to Ankomi village in the Adankolo axis of Lokoja LGA, where they discovered that the settlement, previously occupied by suspected bandits, had been destroyed and abandoned.

During further operations along the river line, the troops intercepted three women and two children, who were later confirmed to be victims of the Ayetoro Kiri kidnap incident.

“Preliminary debriefing confirmed that the intercepted persons were victims of the Ayetoro Kiri abduction,” the source said.

The source added that the troops further exploited the area and discovered two decomposing bodies, suspected to belong to other abducted persons.

“One corpse has been evacuated, while efforts are ongoing to recover the remaining remains,” he said.

According to the military source, the rescued victims are currently receiving medical treatment at Fisayo Hospital in Obajana, while the deceased woman has been deposited at St. Joseph Mortuary in Kabba, Kogi State.

He noted that debriefing of the rescued victims is ongoing to aid efforts to locate and rescue other abductees, adding that although the security situation in the area is calm, it remains unpredictable.

The source further assured that troops’ morale and operational efficiency remain high, as clearance and rescue operations continue across the affected areas.
