Nigerian Police, FBI Arrest Suspects Behind Microsoft Cyber Attack
Abuja, Nigeria — Operatives of the Nigerian Police Force National Cyber Crime Centre (NPF-NCCC) have arrested suspects involved in a cyber attack on Microsoft’s database, following an investigation led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
The suspects, traced to locations within Nigeria, are accused of cloning Microsoft applications and obtaining confidential customer information. One of the suspects, identified as Okitipi Samuel, has been apprehended by the NPF-NCCC.
Addressing journalists at the NPF-NCCC headquarters in Abuja, Police spokesman Benjamin Hundeyin, accompanied by the Director of the centre, CP Uche Henry, explained that the FBI contacted Nigerian authorities after detecting the breach during its probe in collaboration with Microsoft and the United States Secret Service.

“This crime involved Microsoft, one of the world’s leading technology companies. Criminals cloned Microsoft applications and accessed sensitive customer data. Our centre, certified as the best Cyber Crime Centre in Africa, was contacted to assist in the investigation,” Hundeyin said.
The police emphasized that cybercrime enforcement and international cooperation are critical in tackling data breaches and technology-related crimes, adding that more arrests may follow as investigations continue.
