The alleged plot, uncovered in late September 2025, involved intelligence-led operations by the Army, Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA), and the Department of State Services (DSS). The suspects were detained in October 2025 and are undergoing investigation for their alleged roles in planning a coup against the government.

Speaking in Abuja, Gen. Musa stressed that the suspects “must have made up their minds when they decided to do this and must have considered their families”. He assured that they will receive fair trials with access to legal representation, while the government will also support their families throughout the judicial process.

The Defence Minister reaffirmed that Nigeria’s security agencies are fully in control and warned that any attempt to undermine the constitutional order or democratic institutions will be met with firm consequences. He called on Nigerians to remain calm, confident that the investigation and prosecution will be conducted transparently and lawfully.

This high-profile case has attracted national and international attention, raising questions about military discipline, governance stability, and the resilience of Nigeria’s democracy. Government officials continue to emphasize that all suspects will face the rule of law, while the nation remains committed to peace, security, and democratic integrity.
