Nigeria’s Eaglets crash out of CAF U17, lose 1-2 to B/Faso

Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets Thursday night suffered a narrow 2-1 defeat to Burkina Faso in the quarterfinals of the 2023 CAF U-17 Africa Cup of Nations.

The loss not only knocked them out of the tournament but also dashed Nigeria’s hopes of securing a spot in the FIFA U17 World Cup later this year.

Nduka Ugbade-tutored side only had themselves to blame for the defeat as defensive errors cost the team dearly after starting the game well even hitting the post twice in the opening 10 minutes.

No one would be feeling the pain more than Tochukwu Ogboji who was responsible for both goals conceded by the Eaglets.

He failed to clear the ball, which allowed Aboubacar Camara to tap into an empty net for the opening goal.

Ogboji was also responsible for the second goal as he gave away a totally avoidable penalty which Camara was more than happy to convert to grab his brace.

Nigeria, to their credit played very well, but their efforts were contained by the Burkina Faso defence.

However, Abubakar Abdullahi pulled one back for the Eaglets.

The team missed the chance to level when Light Eke fluffed his chance of an easy tap in; and the attack line just wasn’t composed enough to take their chances.

Osimhen to end season with us, despite Jan exit clause – Galatasaray

Galatasaray manager Okan Buruk has confirmed that Victor Osimhen’s loan from Napoli includes a clause allowing the striker to join one of his interested clubs during the January transfer window.

At a press conference on Sunday, Buruk stated that the 25-year-old Super Eagles’ forward plans to end the season with the Turkish giants.

Osimhen’s future was widely discussed over the summer, and he ultimately signed with Galatasaray on the last day of the transfer window following unsuccessful moves to Al-Ahli and Chelsea.

He said, ”Osimhen has the intention of staying here until the end of the season. He also wants to stay; he said the same thing at the beginning.

“There is a clause there, but it doesn’t matter; he said he will stay. There is a clause about transfers in January. This clause has different things.

“The important thing is the player. The player who decides. That’s why Osimhen says he will stay here. He said the same thing when he came.

“If the player wants to stay, Galatasaray will do whatever it takes to keep him, even if it means pushing the limits financially. While an immediate transfer seems unlikely, a move could happen at the end of the season,” he said.

Osimhen has made an immediate impact in Istanbul, scoring eight goals and providing four assists in just nine appearances across all competitions.

Jake Paul, a former child star and social media influencer who began his professional boxing career in 2020, on Saturday secured a victory against former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson in a boxing bout.

The fight was livestreamed worldwide on Netflix, and Paul won by unanimous decision.

While the outcome surprised some, the financial stakes were just as intense as the match itself, with both fighters set to earn huge sums for their efforts.

Mike Tyson, widely regarded as one of the greatest boxers in history, is 58 years old and has an estimated net worth of $10 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth.

While this figure is modest compared to the hundreds of millions Tyson earned during his career, including $400 million in fight purses according to Forbes, he’s also made a remarkable comeback after declaring bankruptcy in 2013 at age 37.

Although promoters did not disclose Tyson’s exact earnings from the fight, reports from sources like DraftKings Network estimate he will earn around $20 million.

This figure is comparable to the amount Tyson earned for his 1988 match against Michael Spinks, which had a record purse at the time (worth approximately $53 million today when adjusted for inflation). That fight ended in just 91 seconds, with Tyson knocking out the previously undefeated Spinks.

Jake Paul, 27, is expected to earn approximately $40 million, according to estimates from DraftKings Network and other sources. This is double the amount Tyson is projected to make. One reason for this disparity may be Paul’s status as a top social media influencer, with 27 million followers on Instagram alone. Additionally, Paul is the co-founder of Most Valuable Promotions (MVP), the company promoting the fight in partnership with Netflix.

Paul’s net worth is estimated at $80 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth.
