Nnamdi Kanu: Benjamin Kalu Pushes for Political Solution After Court’s Life Sentence
Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, says attention is now shifting to a political solution to secure the release of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), following his life sentence by a Federal High Court in Abuja.
Kalu, in a statement on Wednesday, expressed confidence that President Bola Tinubu would consider ongoing appeals from prominent Igbo leaders advocating Kanu’s release. He urged residents of the South-East and Nigerians to remain calm, describing the current moment as one filled with hope.

“It is now time to explore political solutions that had been hindered because the matter was before the court,” he said.
“But now that the court has finished, it is time to intensify requests for the president’s intervention, and we are sure that the president is not averse to it.
“We are going to get it. All hope is not lost. Our people should remain calm.”
Kalu’s intervention comes amid growing calls across the region for a peaceful and strategic resolution to the Nnamdi Kanu case, which has remained a major issue in national discourse and South-East security conversations.
