‘No Party Will Give Him Presidential Ticket,’ Keyamo Mocks Kwankwaso

Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has openly dismissed the chances of former Kano State governor Rabiu Kwankwaso securing a presidential ticket ahead of the 2027 general election, describing his ambition as politically unrealistic.

Keyamo, in a strongly worded reaction, mocked Kwankwaso’s 2027 aspirations, arguing that the former governor has effectively shut himself out of contention by failing to align with a viable national platform. According to him, neither the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) nor the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) would consider Kwankwaso as a presidential candidate.

He further criticised the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Kwankwaso’s political base, portraying it as a regional party with limited national reach, whose influence is largely confined to Kano State and now under pressure from internal cracks and defections.

Keyamo’s comments come amid growing political realignments in Kano State, with reports of key NNPP figures and allies exploring moves to the APC, developments that could further weaken Kwankwaso’s grip on his traditional stronghold ahead of 2027.

The minister argued that without control of Kano or backing from a major political party, Kwankwaso’s chances of mounting a serious 2027 presidential challenge are slim, insisting that Nigeria’s next election will be decided by broad national coalitions rather than regional movements.

As the 2027 political race gathers momentum, the exchange highlights deepening tensions between the ruling party and opposition figures, while underscoring how shifting alliances and defections may shape who ultimately emerges as credible contenders.
