Northern CAN condemns insecurity, calls for protection of schools, churches
The Northern chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has condemned the escalating wave of insecurity across the country, describing recent attacks as painful reminders of the severe challenges facing citizens and security personnel.
In a statement on Wednesday in Kaduna, Rev. Joseph Hayab, Chairman of Northern CAN, expressed deep sorrow over the attack on a Christ Apostolic Church in Kwara, which left worshippers killed and several abducted. The association also condemned the killing of a senior military officer, a Brigadier-General in Borno, by ISWAP terrorists, as well as the abduction of schoolgirls in Kebbi.
Hayab said the association stood in full solidarity with victims, their families, and affected communities. “The pain and trauma experienced by families who have lost loved ones or have children in captivity cannot be overstated,” he said, praying for comfort for the bereaved, healing for the injured, and the safe return of all abducted persons.

While commending the Nigerian Armed Forces for their sacrifices, Northern CAN warned that the resurgence of terror attacks appears to be a deliberate attempt to destabilise the nation. Hayab urged the military to remain resolute and focused in ongoing security operations nationwide.
He further called on security chiefs and troops to intensify efforts to defeat insurgents, bandits, and other criminal networks threatening peace, while appealing to the Federal Government to redouble its efforts in securing schools, worship centres, and vulnerable communities facing repeated attacks.
“The Nigerian people expect decisive action to ensure that those behind these heinous crimes are arrested and prosecuted, giving victims confidence that justice will be served,” Hayab said.
The association described the attacks as unacceptable acts of evil that must not be allowed to spread further and called for stronger collaboration between security agencies, state governments, and community structures to prevent additional tragedies nationwide.
