One Dead in Multiple Truck Crash at Otedola Bridge
Lagos, Nigeria — A fatal truck crash at Otedola Bridge on the Lagos‑Ibadan Expressway has left one person dead and caused severe traffic disruption. The accident, which occurred early Friday morning, involved two articulated trucks and a third vehicle carrying flour, blocking nearly 80% of the expressway.
Emergency responders from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS) rushed to the scene, rescuing the trapped driver who was later pronounced dead at the General Hospital, Ikeja.

Authorities report that the collision happened as two heavy-duty trucks carrying sand and granite collided, while a third truck toppled nearby, spilling its cargo. Motorists were forced to seek alternate routes, leading to gridlocks across surrounding areas.
The Otedola Bridge stretch is notorious for fatal truck accidents, with previous incidents claiming multiple lives, including a recent Audi–truck collision that killed three people. Officials warn that most accidents in the area are caused by driver negligence, poor traffic discipline, and failure to adhere to road safety regulations.
The Lagos State government continues to urge commercial vehicle operators and motorists to observe traffic rules and exercise caution, while reinforcing road safety enforcement to prevent further tragedies.
