Victor Osimhen
Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen has been appointed the Super Eagles’ assistant captain, becoming the deputy to newly named captain Wilfred Ndidi, as Nigeria’s national team undergoes a leadership transition.
Osimhen has also been handed the responsibility of serving as the Super Eagles’ new penalty taker, following the retirement of former captain William Troost-Ekong, who previously held both roles.
The change in leadership comes after Troost-Ekong’s decision to step down from international football, paving the way for Ndidi to be officially unveiled as the Super Eagles captain last week.

Although Alex Iwobi and Moses Simon remain the most senior players in the current squad, having featured for the national team for nearly a decade, the technical crew opted for Osimhen as vice-captain based on his influence and dedication.
Iwobi is presently the most capped player in the Super Eagles, with Simon close behind.
According to SCORENigeria, Osimhen’s selection was influenced by his whole-hearted commitment, leadership qualities, and consistent passion for representing Nigeria at the highest level.
The appointment further cements Osimhen’s growing status as one of the most influential figures in the Super Eagles squad.
