Osun 2026: Aregbesola Ally, Moshood Adeoti, Quits Omoluabi Progressives Ahead of Governorship Primaries
As political parties intensify preparations for the Osun governorship primary elections, a major political shift has emerged with the withdrawal of Alhaji Moshood Adeoti, a prominent ally of former Governor Rauf Aregbesola, from all activities of the Omoluabi Progressives.
The Omoluabi Progressives was formed after the dissolution of The Osun Progressives (TOP) — the platform originally used by Aregbesola to mobilise his political base within the All Progressives Congress (APC). The group later aligned with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) following internal rifts in the APC.
Nearly three years after its formation, Adeoti — a former Secretary to the State Government and a key figure reportedly eyeing the ADC governorship ticket — has distanced himself from the group just weeks before the party’s primary election.

In a letter dated November 30, 2025, and addressed to the group’s chairman, Adeoti said he was stepping down due to pressure from his family and the need to take a break from active politics. The letter, made available to Vanguard, expressed deep emotion over his decision.
“I, Alhaji Moshood Oinickan Adeoti, the Deputy Leader of the Omoluabi Progressives in Osun State, hereby tender this letter of withdrawal from the group, which I co-founded,” he wrote.
Adeoti noted that leaving the group was difficult, given the “turbulent period” it had endured and his investments in sustaining it. He added that family members had urged him to take a short rest from politics.
He expressed gratitude to members of the group for their trust and wished the current leadership success in its future engagements.
With Adeoti’s exit, political observers anticipate a reshaping of alliances as the Osun 2026 governorship race draws closer.
