Osun 2026: PDP crisis may force Gov Adeleke to Seek reelection on another party’s platform
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Osun State chapter has raised concerns that Governor Ademola Adeleke may not seek a second-term ticket under the PDP due to the deepening leadership crisis rocking the party at the national level.
The PDP, currently split into opposing factions, is struggling with suspended and counter-suspended national officers—individuals crucial to conducting congresses, primaries, and transmitting candidates’ names to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). This internal turmoil has stalled preparations ahead of the August 8, 2026 Osun governorship election.
Speaking to journalists in Osogbo on Monday, Osun PDP Chairman Sunday Bisi said the crisis had rendered the conduct of the party’s governorship primary, originally scheduled for December 2, impossible.

Bisi disclosed that while Adeleke had fully complied with all nomination guidelines — purchasing and submitting the PDP nomination and expression of interest forms, appearing before the screening committee, and obtaining his Certificate of Clearance — the escalating dispute within the national leadership derailed the next stages.
He explained that the statutory ward and local government congresses slated for November 24 and 29 could not hold due to unresolved court cases and leadership disputes. These congresses are essential for electing delegates who would vote in the governorship primaries.
“In light of the foregoing, it has become unavoidable that the PDP governorship primaries can no longer hold as scheduled,” Bisi said.
He added that the worsening situation has created uncertainty around Adeleke’s political direction. “The information at my disposal is that Governor Ademola Adeleke may no longer be interested in seeking the PDP nomination for the 2026 Osun Governorship Election, except a resolution recognised by INEC is reached within the commission’s stipulated timeline,” he stated.
With the deadline for submission of candidates’ names fixed for December 15, the unfolding crisis may force Adeleke to seek a new political platform for his reelection bid if the PDP fails to resolve its internal conflict in time.
