A wave of outrage has swept through Sokoto State following the brutal assault of a teenage house help, allegedly at the hands of her employer, identified as Fauziya Rabo.

The Sokoto State Police Command has confirmed Rabo’s arrest and the commencement of a full investigation into the incident.

According to the police, the victim, 15-year-old Bashariyya Usman, suffered multiple injuries allegedly inflicted by Rabo at her residence in the state capital.

A petition submitted to the police by concerned citizens and human rights activists detailed a disturbing pattern of abuse and led to the swift intervention of law enforcement.

Confirming the arrest, the Public Relations Officer of the Sokoto State Police Command, DSP Ahmad Rufai, said the case is being treated with the utmost seriousness.

“We received a formal petition concerning the assault on the young girl, Bashariyya Usman, and immediately launched an investigation. The suspect, Fauziya Rabo, was arrested shortly after, and she is currently in our custody,” DSP Rufai stated.

“The command is committed to ensuring that justice is served. We appeal to the public to remain calm and allow the legal process to take its course.”

“Every individual, regardless of social status, deserves to be treated with dignity. We are committed to protecting the rights of all residents in this state, and no one is above the law.”

He further urged members of the public to avoid spreading unverified information or inciting comments that could compromise the investigation.

“We understand the public concern and emotions this case has stirred, but we appeal for restraint. Let us allow the investigation to run its course. We will continue to update the public in a transparent manner,” the Commissioner added.

As the investigation progresses, the police have promised to ensure that the case is prosecuted diligently, with full respect for the legal rights of both the victim and the accused.

If found guilty, Rabo may face charges under sections of the Nigerian Criminal Code Act and Child Rights Act relating to physical assault and child abuse.
