Oyo Kingdom Constitutes Committee for Grand Chief Imam Inauguration, Turbaning

The Oyo Alaafin Palace has announced the formation of the Imamate Inauguration and Turbaning Committee ahead of the installation of the Grand Chief Imam of Oyo Kingdom, scheduled for December 6, 2025.

According to an official statement, the committee was approved by the Grand Chief Imam of Oyo Kingdom, Sheikh Imam Billal Husayn Akinola Akeugberu, to coordinate and oversee preparations for the historic event.

The committee is chaired by Imam Daud Igi Ogun, Khadeemul-l-Muslimeen of Oyo Kingdom, and includes notable members such as Alhaji Chief Tajudeen Kamarise, Prince Lateef Owoade, Dr. AbdulMumeen Hamzah, Ustaz Sulayman Esa Oke, Alhaji Dr. Taofeek Lamidi (Ph.D), and Princess Fatimah Owoade, among others.

Confirming the development, the Grand Chief Imam’s media aide, Mallam Ibrahim Agunbiade, stated that the committee has already commenced work and aims to deliver “a well-organised, dignified and culturally befitting inauguration” reflecting the rich Islamic and royal heritage of Oyo Kingdom.
