Oyo Police Heighten Security in Ikoyi-Ile After Terror Threat Note Emerges

The Oyo State Police Command has confirmed a reported terror threat against Ikoyi-Ile community in Oriire Local Government Area, assuring residents that robust security measures have been put in place to prevent any attack.

The command disclosed that security has been significantly reinforced in the area, with intensified armed patrols, stop-and-search operations, and intelligence surveillance already ongoing.

In a statement issued on Saturday in Ibadan, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Olayinka Ayanlade, said a handwritten threat note, written in both Yoruba and English, was allegedly discovered in front of a residential building in Ikoyi-Ile.

The development follows a recent deadly attack in Oloka village, also in Oriire LGA, where a 12-man suspected bandit group reportedly raided the area around 11:30 p.m. on January 7, killing five officials of the National Park Service in their offices.

Ayanlade stated that the Commissioner of Police, Femi Haruna, has directed the State Intelligence Department, working closely with tactical units, to commence a comprehensive investigation, including the debriefing of all persons linked to the discovery of the note.

According to him, security operations across the axis have been greatly strengthened, with police personnel placed on 24-hour high alert to deny criminal elements any opportunity to exploit the situation.

“The Area Command has been instructed to maintain constant supervision and sustained patrol coverage across the affected areas,” the PPRO said, adding that the command has launched a thorough, intelligence-driven investigation into the origin, authenticity, and intent of the alleged threat.

He assured residents that the police would leave no stone unturned in uncovering the truth behind the message and warned that any individual or group found responsible would be dealt with decisively in accordance with the law.

The police spokesperson urged members of the public to remain calm, stressing that adequate security measures are already in place to protect lives and property across the state.

He also appealed to residents to promptly report any suspicious persons, movements, or activities to the nearest police station, security post, or designated emergency channels, noting that timely intelligence is crucial to effective preventive policing.
