Panel gets four weeks to design disposal plan for 753-duplex Abuja estate

Panel gets four weeks to design disposal plan for 753-duplex Abuja estate

The Federal Government has issued a four-week deadline to a newly inaugurated ministerial committee to assess, plan, and propose a disposal strategy for the 753-unit housing estate recently recovered by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Abuja.

The Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Dangiwa, gave the ultimatum while inaugurating the committee yesterday in Abuja.

The minister said the move tallied with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and reflected the government’s resolve to quickly turn idle assets into affordable homes for Nigerians.

“This is not just another assignment; it is a mission to deliver value, hope, and homes. You have four weeks to submit a preliminary report and roadmap for the full completion and transparent allocation of the estate,” Dangiwa said.

The EFCC officially handed over the estate, located in the Cadastral Zone of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), to the housing ministry on May 20.

It was originally abandoned and linked to corruption, but the government now plans to complete and allocate the housing units to deserving citizens.

Chaired by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, the committee has senior officials, directors, and technical advisers.

The committee is expected to conduct structural integrity tests, assess the level and value of existing work, determine the cost of completing the estate’s amenities, such as roads, power, and water, as well as develop a clear and inclusive disposal strategy.

The government’s plan also includes provisions for standardised architectural guidelines and allocation through the Renewed Hope Housing portal to ensure fairness, transparency, and affordability.

Dangiwa urged the committee to work with urgency, dedication, and integrity.

“Nigerians want to see results. This estate must become a reference point for how recovered assets can be repurposed to serve the people,” he said.
