PDP Accuses Fubara of Betrayal, Demands Disclosure of Tinubu Peace Deal

A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State has accused Governor Siminalayi Fubara of betraying the party and the people of the state, alleging that he violated key terms of peace agreements brokered by President Bola Tinubu during the height of the state’s political crisis.

Speaking at a news conference in Port Harcourt on Thursday, factional PDP Caretaker Chairman, Dr. Nname Ewor, said the crisis between Fubara and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly erupted less than a year after the governor assumed office, eventually plunging the state into instability.

Ewor claimed that Tinubu intervened in the dispute and brokered a peace agreement, part of which required Fubara not to seek a second term, reinstate Chief Ohna Awuse as Chairman of the Rivers Traditional Rulers Council, and remove Tammy Danagogo as Secretary to the State Government and Edison Ehie as Chief of Staff.

According to him, Fubara allegedly failed to honour the terms of the agreement, leading to the collapse of the peace process and the eventual declaration of a State of Emergency in Rivers State by Tinubu.

The PDP chieftain further alleged that the governor later entered into another agreement with the President shortly before the emergency rule was lifted, a development he said culminated in Fubara’s defection from the PDP to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Ewor claimed that after defecting, Fubara began boasting that Tinubu would compel members of the Rivers State House of Assembly to pass the 2026 budget, and would also force the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, to support his second-term ambition.

Calling for transparency, Ewor urged the governor to publicly disclose the full terms of the agreement reached with Tinubu before the lifting of the emergency rule.

“The mandate Fubara is holding was given to him by the people of Rivers State. It is therefore incumbent on him to disclose the terms of the peace agreement he entered into before the emergency rule was lifted, so Rivers people can make informed decisions,” he said.

He recalled that the PDP had approached the Supreme Court to challenge the declaration of the state of emergency in a bid to protect its mandate, lamenting that Fubara had now “taken that mandate to the APC.”

Ewor also accused the governor of misleading party members into attending the PDP convention in Ibadan, only for him to stay away from the event, an issue he said is now before the court.

He further alleged that Fubara has aligned himself with calls by Wike for the re-election of President Tinubu in 2027.
