Zaynab Ngohemba Breaks Silence on Marriage to SGF George Akume

Zaynab Ngohemba, formerly known as Zaynab Otiti Obanor, has spoken publicly for the first time about her recent marriage to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, describing the union as one rooted in maturity, shared purpose, and mutual understanding.

The couple reportedly tied the knot a few weeks ago in a private wedding ceremony, which later drew widespread public attention.

In a statement issued by her media aide, David Adeoye, and published by ThisDay, Zaynab said the marriage represents a partnership built on personal stability and a common commitment to public service, rather than a reinvention of either partner.

“It is a partnership shaped by maturity, shared purpose, and an understanding that personal stability strengthens public duty,” the statement read.

According to the statement, the union brings together two individuals already devoted to national service, reinforcing values such as humility, discipline, empathy, and responsibility.

“Their partnership represents the meeting of two lives already devoted to public purpose. It is not a reinvention of either individual, but a reinforcement of shared values,” it added.

Adeoye further noted the symbolic significance of the marriage, stressing that it comes at a time when Nigerians are increasingly demanding integrity, compassion, and accountability from public office holders.

He said the marriage reflects a leadership philosophy that blends authority with empathy and governance with genuine service.

“At a time when Nigerians increasingly demand integrity and humanity from those in leadership, this union sends a subtle but powerful signal that service is strongest when anchored in shared values and a long-term vision of legacy,” the statement said.

Zaynab was previously married to Adeyeye Ogunwusi, the Ooni of Ife, in a traditional ceremony held in March 2016. The marriage ended in separation in 2017, after about 17 months, during which she was known as Olori Wuraola.
