PDP chairmanship: Lamido threatens court action over nomination denial
Former Jigawa State Governor and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, Sule Lamido, has threatened legal action against the party if he is not allowed to purchase nomination forms to contest the position of National Chairman ahead of the party’s elective convention scheduled for November 15–16 in Ibadan, Oyo State.
Lamido, who stormed the PDP National Secretariat in Abuja on Monday with his supporters, expressed frustration over his inability to obtain the forms. He accused top party officials, including National Secretary Senator Samuel Anyanwu and National Organising Secretary Umaru Bature, of deliberately obstructing the process.
“The offices were locked. I came to buy the form as required by the party’s constitution, but both the Secretary and Organising Secretary claimed ignorance of the whereabouts of the forms,” Lamido told journalists.
He described the situation as “strange,” noting that even senior party officers were unable to access their own offices.

The development comes amid growing tension over the PDP’s zoning arrangements ahead of the 2027 general elections. At its 102nd National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held on August 25, the party resolved to zone the presidential ticket to the South, while the National Chairmanship was reserved for the North.
Following this, Northern leaders reportedly micro-zoned the chairmanship to the North-West and endorsed former Minister of Special Duties, Tanimu Turaki (SAN), as consensus candidate.
However, Lamido and his allies have rejected the endorsement, alleging exclusion from the decision-making process.
“The North-West never met. We were supposed to hold a meeting on Wednesday, but another meeting was hurriedly convened on Tuesday to pre-empt ours. Consensus must be built through consultation, not imposition,” Lamido said.
He warned that any attempt to sideline legitimate aspirants would not go unchallenged, adding that he was prepared to seek redress in court if necessary.
