Police Charge Blogger Adetoun Onajobi With Cyberbullying Over Online Posts
The Ogun State Police Command has formally charged popular blogger and social media activist Adetoun Onajobi, also known as @justadetoun, with cyberbullying and related offences under the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act. The charges, filed before the Federal High Court, Abeokuta Division, stem from allegations that Onajobi used online platforms to make false accusations and harass public officials, including the Ogun State Government and Governor Dapo Abiodun.

Authorities revealed that Onajobi initially failed to respond to police invitations, submitting a medical report claiming indisposition. Investigations later found the report to be fraudulent, resulting in the arrest of the issuing doctor for uttering a false document. Onajobi’s current whereabouts remain unknown, and police have pledged to use all legal means to ensure she appears in court to face the charges.
The case underscores the enforcement of cybercrime laws in Nigeria, which aim to curb online harassment, defamation, and misinformation. While intended to protect victims, critics argue the legislation’s broad scope can sometimes clash with freedom of expression, particularly in politically sensitive contexts.
