Police nab Lagos taxi driver for raping, assaulting female passengers

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a taxi driver accused of multiple violent crimes against female passengers, including rape, defilement, indecent assault, and armed robbery.

Police spokesperson SP Abimbola Adebisi confirmed the arrest in a statement issued on Saturday. According to her, officers from the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) apprehended the suspect at approximately 9:40 a.m. on Friday, following a directive from Commissioner of Police Jimoh Olohundare.

The suspect’s image had earlier gone viral on social media after several victims shared accounts of their traumatic experiences, prompting swift action from law enforcement. A red Toyota Corolla with registration number JJJ 226 HT, allegedly used in the commission of the crimes, was recovered and secured as evidence.

SP Adebisi stated that the suspect is currently in police custody while investigations continue to identify and apprehend other individuals potentially linked to the offences.

She urged additional victims to come forward and report to the SCID in Panti, assuring them that their identities would be protected. “The command remains resolute in its commitment to securing justice for survivors and ensuring public safety,” Adebisi said.

Commissioner Olohundare reaffirmed the police’s dedication to combating violent and sexual crimes, describing the arrest as a significant breakthrough. Further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
