Tinubu Is Well, Türkiye State Visit On Course — Presidency Assures Nigerians
Presidency Explains Tinubu’s Stumble in Türkiye, Dismisses Health Concerns
The Presidency has dismissed widespread concerns over President Bola Tinubu’s health following a brief stumble during an official welcome ceremony in Türkiye, explaining that the incident was caused by a poorly laid carpet at the venue.
A short video showing President Tinubu momentarily losing his footing while walking during the reception in Ankara, Türkiye, went viral on social media on Monday, triggering speculation and renewed debates about the Nigerian leader’s physical fitness.
However, reacting to the development, presidential aides clarified that the stumble was not health-related, stressing that the President quickly regained balance and proceeded with the event without assistance.

According to officials, the incident occurred when Tinubu stepped on an uneven section of the ceremonial carpet, which slightly shifted underfoot. They described the episode as minor, insisting it had no impact on the President’s schedule or engagements during the state visit.
Several Nigerian media outlets, including BusinessDay and TheCable, reported that Tinubu went on to hold bilateral meetings with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, focusing on strengthening Nigeria–Türkiye diplomatic and economic relations.
The Presidency also warned against attempts to politicise or exaggerate the incident, noting that similar minor slips have occurred during international ceremonies involving world leaders.
Despite online reactions and misinformation, official sources maintained that President Tinubu remains in good health and continues to actively discharge his duties, both at home and abroad.
