Matthew Kukah and President Bola Tinubu
Presidency replies Kukah, says Tinubu is reformer not accidental leader
The Nigerian Presidency has refuted claims made by the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Matthew Kukah, that President Bola Tinubu is an “accidental leader.”
During a program on Sunday in Abuja, Kukah suggested that Tinubu and former presidents, including Muhammadu Buhari and Olusegun Obasanjo, rose to power by chance.
However, Bayo Onanuga, the president’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, countered the claim. Speaking to journalists in Abuja, he emphasized Tinubu’s commitment to reforming the nation.

“Tinubu is not an accidental leader,” Onanuga stated. “He has been working tirelessly to ensure a turnaround in Nigeria.”
He further highlighted Tinubu’s readiness for the presidency, noting that his current reforms reflect deliberate preparation.
“His actions prove he was prepared for this role,” Onanuga explained. “He is implementing significant reforms across various sectors to transform the country.”
Onanuga acknowledged that reforms take time but reassured Nigerians of Tinubu’s dedication. “Change doesn’t happen overnight. Tinubu is focused on long-term improvements, demonstrating his role as a true reformer,” he added.
