Reactions as ‘World’s nicest judge’ Frank Caprio dies at 88
Frank Caprio, the American celebrity judge widely celebrated as the “world’s nicest judge,” has died at the age of 88.
His death was confirmed in a statement posted on his official Instagram account on Wednesday, following his battle with pancreatic cancer.
He was remembered for his “warmth, humour, and unwavering belief in the goodness of people.”
Caprio rose to international fame through his courtroom reality series ‘Caught in Providence,’ where his compassionate and often humorous approach to justice attracted billions of views online.
His style earned him admiration beyond the United States, with many viewers describing him as a symbol of kindness in public service.
Tributes have since poured in from across the world. “It feels to all of us like someone in our own family has left us… this wonderful person made the world feel we are one family,” one Instagram user wrote.
Another described him as “an inspiration to the judiciary across the globe.”
His son, David Caprio, thanked fans for their support and urged people to “spread a little kindness” in his father’s memory.
The producers of Caught in Providence, Debmar-Mercury, also praised his “unique brand of compassion and common sense,” adding, “We will miss him dearly.”

His popularity extended to younger audiences, with clips of his courtroom rulings and even a TikTok video of his daily routine drawing millions of views.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Joyce Caprio, five children, seven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
