Relief in Niger State as Remaining St. Mary’s School Abducted Students, Teachers Are Released

Relief has finally come to the people of Papari, Rafi Local Government Area of Niger State, following the release of the remaining students and teachers abducted from St. Mary’s Catholic School.

The freed victims were transported to Minna, the Niger State capital, where they were expected to undergo medical examinations before reuniting with their families.

Findings by Newstrends revealed that those released were the last set of victims taken during the November 21 attack on St. Mary’s Catholic School, when armed assailants stormed the boarding facility in the early hours of the morning.

A senior community member, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed that although the exact number of those released could not be immediately verified, all the remaining abductees had regained their freedom.

“A security official told me that all the remaining victims, including the teachers, have been released. We are now rejoicing. The community will finally have relief from the tension. We have not rested since November 21, when they were abducted,” he said.

The victims were among students and teachers seized by gunmen, who reportedly arrived on motorcycles at about 2am and operated for nearly three hours, moving from one dormitory to another before leading their captives into the surrounding forests.

During the attack, about 50 students escaped, while many others were taken away. On December 8, security operatives secured the release of about 100 abductees, leaving an unspecified number in captivity until the latest breakthrough.

The release marks the end of a traumatic episode for the Papari community and renews calls for improved security in schools across Niger State and Nigeria at large.
