Sallah: NRC adds more trips, runs special trains for Lagos-Ibadan, Warri-Itakpe routes
In a move to ease travel for the Sallah festivities, the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has announced the addition of extra trips and special train services on its popular Lagos-Ibadan and Warri-Itakpe routes.
The NRC made the announcement in a statement issued on Wednesday by its Acting Deputy Director of Public Relations, Callistus Unyimadu. According to the statement, the decision follows a surge in passenger bookings ahead of the Eid-al-Kabir celebration.
Specifically, two additional trips have been added to the Lagos-Ibadan Train Service (LITS) on Thursday, June 5, 2025. In addition to the regular 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. departures from Lagos, an extra train will now run at 1:55 p.m. On the return leg from Ibadan, an extra trip has been scheduled for 11:03am, complementing the regular 8:00 a.m. and 4:46pm. services.
“In response to the increased passenger demand during the festive period, the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has added an extra trip to its Lagos-Ibadan Train Service (LITS) for Thursday, 5 June 2025,” the statement read.
In addition, the NRC will operate a special train service on the Warri-Itakpe corridor on the same day—Thursday, June 5—which is typically reserved for maintenance. To accommodate this, routine maintenance activities have been rescheduled to Sunday, June 8, 2025.
Meanwhile, the regular Abuja-Kaduna Train Service (AKTS) will continue as scheduled, with additional coaches attached to handle the anticipated increase in passenger traffic.
The NRC’s Managing Director, Dr. Kayode Opeifa, along with the management team, extended warm wishes to all passengers celebrating Eid-al-Kabir.
He also reaffirmed the corporation’s commitment to providing safe, efficient, and customer-friendly railway services across the country.
