Sanwo-Olu shuts Lagos markets after another fire razes four buildings

 

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has ordered the closure of many markets in the state.

His action came after another fire incident which razed four buildings at Dosumu Market, leading to the collapse of two of the buildings.

Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Central Business Distress, CBD, Mrs. Bola Olumegbon Lawal, announced the closure and suspension of business activities in the markets and their environs when she led a delegation on an assessment of damage caused by the fire.

The fire which started around noon on Tuesday was still ranging as of 5pm.

Lawal listed the markets affected by the closure to as Dosumu, Nnamdi Azikwe, Moshalashi, Woro Pedro, Obanikoro Street.

Others are Ago Tawa, Idumagbo Avenue, Idumagbo Ido – Oluwo and Oju Olobun Streets.

She said necessary measures were being taken to prevent possible loss of lives, as well as maintain peace and order in the area.

It is the second market fire in Lagos in two days.

Lawal appealed to market women and men in the area to pave way for emergency respondents to effectively perform their duties throughout the rescue operations.
