Shettima, APC Leaders Welcome Taraba Governor Agbu Kefas into Ruling Party
Vice President Kashim Shettima and other senior All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders were on hand as Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas formally joined the ruling APC from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) during a high-profile ceremony in Jalingo, Taraba State on Saturday.
The event, which drew several party bigwigs and senior APC officials, marked a significant political moment, signalling the strengthening of APC’s presence in the North-East ahead of the 2027 general elections. Vice President Shettima, representing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, welcomed Governor Kefas, describing his defection as a strategic move for unity and development in Taraba State.

APC National Chairman Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda formally presented the party flag to Kefas, lauding his decision as courageous and timely. He highlighted the potential for synergy between the Taraba State government and federal programmes, particularly under the Tinubu administration’s Renewed Hope agenda.
Governor Kefas, who was elected under the PDP in 2023, said his decision to join the APC was driven by a desire to accelerate development, foster unity, and expand opportunities for Taraba residents. He emphasised that the move was motivated by service to the people rather than personal gain.
Other APC governors and senior party figures attended the event, further reflecting the party’s strategic focus on expanding its influence and consolidating support across key states. Party officials and observers noted that the defection could reshape the political dynamics in the region as the 2027 elections approach.
The ceremony also provided a platform for the APC to showcase its inclusive leadership and outreach strategy, with leaders promising continued collaboration to deliver tangible benefits to Taraba State citizens.
