Soldiers injured in terrorist ambush during Kebbi schoolgirls rescue mission
Several Nigerian soldiers sustained injuries after terrorists ambushed a troop deployment tasked with rescuing the abducted schoolgirls in Kebbi State.
The attack occurred less than 24 hours after the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, directed Operation Fasan Yamma operatives to go “all out” in the mission to track down the bandits responsible for the kidnapping of students from Government Girls Secondary School, Maga.

Shaibu emphasized the urgency of the operation, ordering commanders to conduct intelligence-based operations and maintain 24-hour deployment until all abducted students are safely rescued and reunited with their families.
In response, troops mobilized for the rescue mission but were met with a well-coordinated ambush by terrorists. Several injured soldiers were reportedly left without immediate medical attention, and one victim, speaking in Hausa, disclosed: “Musa has a bullet lodged in his leg. His condition is very bad.”
The soldiers’ operational vehicle was also riddled with bullet holes, highlighting the intensity of the confrontation. Authorities are coordinating further efforts to secure the release of the abducted schoolgirls while reinforcing the safety of troops on the ground.
