Soldiers kill bandits in Plateau, halt attack on Nteng

Troops of 3 Division/Operation Safe Haven have averted what would have been another deadly massacre in a Plateau community, less than 48 hours after 27 people were killed in an attack in Riyom Local Government Area of the state.

This time, acting on credible intelligence on plans by bandits to attack communities at Nteng in Qua’an Pan Local Government Area of Plateau State on Wednesday, troops of 3 Division/Operation Safe Haven laid an ambush against the criminals.

According to the Media Information Officer, Major Samson Zhakom, after making contact with them while approaching Nteng community, a heavy exchange of gunfire ensued, whereby the troops neutralised two bandits while others fled with possible gunshot wounds, as indicated by the bloodstains along their withdrawal routes.

Zhakom, in a statement, said that upon exploitation of the area, troops recovered dangerous weapons and ammunition.

He said: “The recovered weapons and ammunition are in the custody of troops for further action. Meanwhile, troops are on the trail of the fleeing criminals for interception.

“This latest operational success remains a testament to the troops’ unrelenting fight against armed militias and other criminal elements within Operation Safe Haven’s Joint Operations Area. The success will be sustained through the intense fighting spirit of troops and the collaborative efforts of the public in providing actionable information to aid our operations.”
