Soldiers of Operation Whirl Stroke have reportedly killed suspected kidnappers in ZakiBiam town of Ukum Local Government Area in Benue State.
The three suspects were gunned down while they were taking their victims away in a Toyota Corolla vehicle.
Special Adviser to the Benue Governor on Security Matters, Lt. Col. Paul Hemba (retd), told journalists in Makurdi that the incident happened about 3:30 pm on Tuesday.
“On May 24, 2022, at about 1530hrs, one Ordue Kanga aka Ordada and his gang kidnapped one Omemma Chimobi in Zaki Baim Town. Based on a credible tip-off, the troops of sub-sector 2, Zaki Baim trailed the bandits through the yam market road as they were looking for an escape route.
“On sighting troops, the bandits opened fire from inside the red Toyota Corolla but the troops returned superior firepower and neutralise three of the bandits.
“The kidnapped victim, Omemma Chimobi, was rescued. However,
items recovered are one Ak-47 rifle, three magazines loaded, one Toyota Corolla wagon, one desert camouflage, one woodland camouflage and handsets,” Hemba stated.
