Super Eagles players
Nigeria’s Super Eagles have recorded a major rise in the latest FIFA World Rankings, climbing 12 places to 26th globally following their impressive performance at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.
The new ranking represents Nigeria’s highest global position in over 15 years, underlining the team’s resurgence on the continental and world stage. The Super Eagles moved up from 38th after gaining significant ranking points from their strong AFCON campaign.
Nigeria finished the tournament with a bronze medal, defeating Egypt on penalties in the third-place match, after narrowly losing to host nation Morocco in the semi-finals. The results contributed heavily to the country’s ranking boost, making Nigeria one of the biggest climbers in the latest FIFA update.

With the new ranking, the Super Eagles are now ranked among Africa’s top three teams, trailing only Senegal and Morocco, and sitting ahead of traditional rivals such as Algeria, Ghana and Egypt.
Football analysts say the climb reflects improved tactical discipline, squad depth and individual brilliance from key players, including Victor Osimhen and standout goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali, who played crucial roles during AFCON.
The improved global standing is also expected to boost Nigeria’s confidence ahead of upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, with potential benefits for match seeding and international perception.
