Supreme Court adjourns Kanu’s case till Sept 14
The Supreme Court on Thursday adjourned hearing of the suit filed by Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB), to September 14.
Kanu had approached the court to appeal the verdict of the appeal court stopping his release from the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS).

On October 28, 2022, the court of appeal granted a stay of execution on its verdict which discharged him of terrorism charges.
The appeal court in a unanimous decision by a three-member panel granted the application filed by the Federal Government pending the hearing and determination of the appeal before the Supreme Court.
Kanu has been in detention since he was brought back from Kenya on June 19, 2021.
During Thursday’s proceedings, the apex court granted the application of Abubakar Malami, attorney-general of the federation, to file additional processes in response to Kanu’s filing, which was done on Tuesday.
The apex court said even if it proceeded to hear the appeal, there was no space within its calendar to write and deliver the verdict within the 90-day deadline.

“I campaigned for it, no excuses, I will live up to the bill to deliver. I promise you.

Remi Tinubu at inauguration service seeks prayers, support to reset Nigeria
Incoming First Lady of Nigeria, Remi Tinubu, has said that her family does not need Nigeria’s wealth to survive.
Indeed, she pledged that his husband Bola Tinubu would today be mounting the saddle as Nigeria’s brand new President to set the country on the right path.
She spoke at the National Christian Centre, Abuja, during the 2023 Presidential Inauguration Inter-Denominational Service held on Sunday.
The incoming First Lady however stressed they would need the grace of God and the people’s payers and support to deliver on the expectations of citizens.
Remi said, “God has been merciful to us. I can tell you on my own that we never believed this could happen. But thank God for giving us hope, for giving us the resilience to continue in the race of life.
“Asiwaju is 71 and I will be 63. I bet I will be one of the oldest first ladies Nigeria would have. We need the grace of God and we need everyone to do what Nigerians are expecting.”
She also said, “Today, God has really proved himself as he did on the night of the primaries and put his seal on it. Because, when I saw the votes count to be 1,271, I said God it means you are here.
“I was humbled to my rock bottom. And to believe that this is the seventh consecutive democratic transition Nigeria will be experiencing shows that this is a time of perfection for Nigeria.
“Perfection in the sense that, in the word of God, I remember for over two years we have been praying in our churches, according to Isaiah 43:18-19, that we should not remember the former things, that God is going to do a new thing. A new thing came and we still kept arguing with God. Who can argue with his maker? No one.”

Under the CBN act, the ways and means provision allows the government to borrow from the CBN to finance budget shortfalls.
The amendment increases the CBN advances to the federal government from five per cent to 15 per cent.
The bill, sponsored by Victor Nwokolo, chairman of the house committee on banking and finance, was passed for second reading on Thursday.
During the emergency plenary, the bill was considered by the committee of the whole and passed for third reading without any opposition.
The national assembly can now transmit the two bills to the President for assent.
The national assembly had earlier in the month approved the request by President Muhammadu Buhari to convert the N23.7tn loan to a 40-year bond.
Speaker of the House Femi Gbajabiamila commended the lawmakers for attending the emergency session despite the short notice.
