Teenager Survives Alleged Ritual Attack as Five Suspects Held in Osun
A Special Court in Osogbo, Osun State, has remanded five suspected ritualists for allegedly attempting to kill a 16-year-old boy to harvest his organs, sparking widespread concern over ritual killings in Nigeria. The accused, Awotunde Saudat, Muyideen Olutoki, Fatai Abiodun, Usman Ademola, and Ismaila Abiodun, were arraigned on charges of attempted murder and conspiracy.
The incident reportedly took place in Ikire, Osun State, when the suspects allegedly planned to attack and mutilate the teenager for ritual purposes. The boy, identified as Farouq Abdulahi Taiwo, managed to escape the attack and raise the alarm, leading to his rescue and subsequent treatment at a local hospital before referral to a specialist facility.
The presiding judge ordered that the suspects be remanded at the Ilesa Correctional Centre pending further trial at the Chief Magistrate Court in Ikire. A follow-up hearing has been scheduled later this month. Authorities have stressed the need for public cooperation in providing information that may aid the ongoing investigation.

The attack has triggered public outrage and calls from community leaders and civil society for stricter security measures to protect children from ritualistic attacks. Residents of Ikire and surrounding areas demanded swift prosecution of the suspects to serve as a deterrent to similar crimes.
Experts note that incidents of ritual killings and organ harvesting are an ongoing concern across Nigeria. Recent cases in Rivers, Ondo, and Edo States highlight the vulnerability of children to these brutal crimes, often carried out under the guise of superstition or ritual practices. Authorities continue to appeal to the public to report suspicious activities and support law enforcement in curbing these offenses.
