Tiwa Savage retracts ‘second wife’ comment, says it was made out of frustration
Afrobeats star, Tiwa Savage, has stepped back from her widely circulated remark about being open to becoming a second wife, explaining that the comment was made out of frustration and emotional hurt rather than genuine intent.
The 45-year-old singer, during a recent appearance on the U.S. podcast Air Service, had suggested that most of the eligible men available to her were either already married or much older, leading her to consider the idea of polygamy.
“If I meet somebody who can really marry me, they are either in their 50s or already married… So, I don’t know. Maybe I can be a second wife,” she said on the show.
In a follow-up video, Savage stated that her words were misunderstood and that she has no interest in being anyone’s second wife.

She revealed that her past relationship experiences, including her previous marriage where she was the only wife, left her emotionally scarred.
“I was a first wife, where did that get me? I got married as the only wife, but here we are,” she said, hinting at heartbreak and disappointment. “I’m tired of being heartbroken… maybe I’m getting it wrong. Maybe I should try being a second wife.”
The singer, who is also a mother of one, insisted that polygamy was not her preference.
“It’s not my choice, though. I don’t want to. I wish I could tell my truth, but I will be dragged,” she added, expressing reluctance to speak freely due to public scrutiny.
Savage’s clarification comes after heated discussions on social media, where many interpreted her earlier statement as an endorsement of polygamy.
