Troops of the Nigerian military have uncovered a hidden Boko Haram fuel dump and an underground logistics depot during a coordinated counter-insurgency operation in North-East Nigeria, security sources have confirmed.
The discovery was made during a clearance mission in a remote area suspected to be a major supply route for Boko Haram insurgents. The underground facility reportedly housed large quantities of fuel and lubricants, believed to support the movement of vehicles, motorcycles and power equipment used by the terrorists.
Military officials said the operation dealt a significant blow to the group’s logistics network, noting that fuel supply is critical to insurgent mobility and attack planning. The depot was destroyed after recovery operations, while troops intensified patrols in nearby locations to prevent regrouping.

The development comes amid sustained military offensives against Boko Haram and ISWAP, particularly in parts of Borno, Yobe and Adamawa states. In recent operations, troops have dismantled insurgent camps, recovered weapons and disrupted supply chains linked to food, fuel and explosives.
Related security operations have also led to the arrest of suspected terrorist collaborators and logistics suppliers, including fuel smugglers accused of aiding insurgent movements. The military says cutting off supply routes has increasingly weakened terrorist groups and reduced their operational reach.
Earlier reports from the Defence Headquarters confirmed the destruction of several IED-making facilities and the rescue of civilians from insurgent hideouts, underscoring renewed momentum in Nigeria’s counter-terrorism campaign.
Security analysts say the discovery of underground depots highlights Boko Haram’s evolving tactics to evade detection, while praising intelligence-driven operations that continue to expose hidden infrastructure.
The military has again urged local communities to support ongoing operations by providing credible intelligence to security agencies.
