Trump Calls Female Reporter ‘Stupid’ Amid Afghan Vetting Questions

US President Donald Trump on Thursday insulted a female journalist, calling her “stupid” while fielding questions about the vetting of Afghan nationals resettled in the United States.

During a press briefing at his Florida estate, Trump cut off the reporter, asking, “Are you stupid? Are you a stupid person?” The exchange came after the reporter questioned why Trump blamed President Joe Biden for allowing Afghan nationals into the country despite some in Trump’s administration asserting they were thoroughly vetted.

Trump displayed a photo of a US military evacuation plane and said the Afghans “came along with thousands of other people that shouldn’t be here,” adding, “you’re just asking questions because you’re a stupid person.”

The incident follows the shooting of two National Guard soldiers near the White House by an Afghan national allegedly brought to the US after the 2021 withdrawal of American forces from Afghanistan.

Insults toward female reporters have become a hallmark of Trump’s public interactions. On Wednesday, he criticized a New York Times article on his age, calling the female author “ugly,” and earlier this month, referred to another woman journalist as “piggy” and “a terrible person.”

The latest comments highlight ongoing tensions between the Trump administration and the press corps, particularly female journalists covering contentious national security and political issues.
