Two Die in Bicycle-Jeep Crash on Okigwe Road, Owerri on Christmas Eve
At least two youths have died after the bicycle they were riding collided head-on with a commercial jeep along Okigwe Road, Owerri, in Imo State, on Christmas Eve.
Eyewitnesses said the victims were riding a small bicycle following a football training session in Orji, Owerri North Local Government Area, when the accident occurred. Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene. The incident caused a massive traffic gridlock, with traffic wardens struggling to manage the congested roadway as stranded Christmas travellers faced delays.
Angry youths reportedly gathered at the crash site, causing a chaotic stampede that worsened the situation. Sources said the victims hailed from Amatta in Ikeduru Local Government Area and had been returning home from training when the collision occurred. Their bodies were evacuated by ambulance and taken to the mortuary.
