Two Kebbi Schoolgirls Escape as Search Intensifies for Remaining Abducted Students

Two of the 25 female students abducted by bandits from Government Girls Secondary School, Maga, in Kebbi State, have reportedly escaped from captivity.

According to a BBC report quoting Hussaini Aliyu, an official of Danko Wasagu LGA, the girls fled while the armed bandits were leading them into the bush, managing to escape through nearby farmlands. Aliyu confirmed that the students “are back and safe,” noting that one of them suffered a leg injury and required medical treatment.

Armed men had attacked the school on Monday morning, kidnapping 25 female students during the violent raid.

The spokesperson of the Kebbi State Police Command, Nafi’u Kotarkoshi, said the school’s vice principal, Hassan Makuku, was killed in the attack, while a security guard, Ali Shehu, sustained gunshot wounds. The BBC later reported that Shehu died at the hospital from his injuries.
