UNILAG Law Graduate Maryam Agoro Dies a Day After Her Convocation
In a tragic turn of events, University of Lagos (UNILAG) law graduate Maryam Agoro passed away just one day after her convocation ceremony, leaving classmates, friends, and the academic community in shock and mourning.
Agoro, who completed her studies in the 2024/2025 academic session, celebrated her achievement at UNILAG’s 56th convocation ceremony on January 20, 2026, an event that saw over 16,500 students awarded degrees, including 2,097 graduates from the Faculties of Law, Engineering, and Management Sciences. Tragically, she died on January 21, 2026, according to reports.

Tributes on social media highlighted her determination and joy. One friend wrote, “You did your convocation yesterday, and today you’re no more. You deserved to be celebrated,” reflecting the disbelief and grief shared across platforms.
Maryam Agoro’s death has sparked conversations about the fragility of life, even amid milestones meant for celebration. Her passing comes as the university continues to commemorate the achievements of its graduating class, while classmates and alumni remember her accomplishments and spirit.
