UPDATED: Why Abuja bound flight was diverted to Asaba – United Nigeria Airline
A United Nigeria Airline flight has confirmed what led to its flight with the original destination as Abuja was diverted to Asaba, Delta state on Sunday.
The NUA 00405 flight which was to take passengers from Lagos on Sunday to Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory but landed in Asaba to the amazement of passengers who were all confused after getting to Asaba.
The incident was first shared online by Salihu Tanko-Yakassai, a former aide to the National Chairman of the All Progressive Congress, Abdullahi Ganduje when he was the Governor of Kano state.
The flight had taken off from Lagos and one hour after, it landed in Asaba.
Tanko-Yakassai who posted the development on X catpured the bizarre situation, stating, “We departed Lagos about an hour ago on @flyunitedng to Abuja, and upon arrival, the cabin crew confidently announced that we’ve arrived Abuja, only for us to realize that we landed in Asaba. Apparently, our pilot was given the wrong flight plan from Lagos.

Achilles Chud-Uchegbu, Head of Corporate Communications of the Airline, while confirming the development, said the diversion was because of poor weather along its destination.
Saying it was a “temporary diversion” he said “At all material times, the pilot of the aircraft was aware of the temporary diversion and was properly briefed.”
He added, “However, a wrong announcement was made by cabin crew upon landing safely in Asaba creating confusion among passengers,”
Chud-Uchegbu said the aircraft has landed safely in Abuja, the original destination adding that the airline remains committed to the safety of its passengers at all times.
