US, Qatar, Egypt, Turkiye Urge Restraint as Gaza Ceasefire Faces Strains

MIAMI — The United States, joined by Qatar, Egypt, and Turkiye, on Saturday called on all parties in Gaza to uphold their ceasefire obligations and exercise restraint, the chief US envoy said following high-level talks in Miami.

The meeting, attended by top officials from the four nations and Steve Witkoff, President Donald Trump’s special envoy, reviewed the first stage of the Gaza ceasefire that took effect on October 10, 2025.

“We reaffirm our full commitment to the President’s 20-point peace plan and call on all parties to cooperate with monitoring arrangements,” Witkoff stated on X, highlighting the need for adherence to the agreement amid ongoing tensions.

Despite progress, the ceasefire has faced challenges. Gaza’s civil defense reported six Palestinians killed on Friday due to Israeli shelling of a shelter, bringing the total to 400 deaths since the ceasefire began. Israel has also accused Hamas of repeated violations, reporting three soldiers killed in the territory since October.

The statement cited achievements in the first phase of the peace deal, including expanded humanitarian aid, return of hostage bodies, partial force withdrawals, and a reduction in hostilities. Officials emphasized the need for the near-term establishment of a transitional authority in Gaza, which will take over governance from Hamas during the second phase, alongside the deployment of an international stabilization force.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio expressed hope that countries would contribute troops for the stabilization force, while stressing the importance of Hamas disarmament to ensure the ceasefire remains intact.

The international coalition reiterated that continued cooperation, restraint, and compliance are essential for sustaining the fragile Gaza peace process and advancing the implementation of the ceasefire agreement.
